Southern African Road Trip- Join Us

For many years, I have always thought to myself it would be cool to venture into an interesting Road Trip of Southern Africa. For a few years now, this remained but only a thought.
There are a lot of myths surrounding Africa's lifestyle. While I lived I British Columbia, Canada, I had an opportunities to speak to various categories of people. Elementary school kids, college youths and senior citizens mainly from the Mennonite Church community. I was asked questions like who the President of Africa is? Are there lions in our cities? Do we have running water in our homes? How did I travel to Canada, do we have airports in Africa? My answer had been; "My nationality is Zambian and not African." These questions from North American people were genuine. People believe what they see on TV on Discovery or National Geographic or Animal planet channels. Based on this I thought, Would it not be awesome to plan a trip into Southern Africa and invite random people from different countries to come along? Say a group of six people who want to go on holidays and spend it entirely on our highways. Take Cameras; video and still alike.
Set off from Lusaka, Zambia's capital, head down south to Zambia's Tourist capital, Livingstone. There see the Mighty Victoria Falls at the Zambia-Zimbabwe border on the Zambezi river (Yes, the Victoria Falls are in Zambia and not Zimbabwe). From there head west about 130km to the Zambia-Namibia border. Drive along the Caprivi Strip of Namibia. See the world's highest Sand dunes in Namibia. Drink the infamous Namibian larger Windhoek named after the country's capital city. Meet the people of Namibia, fall in love and rise again. Head down South to the Namibia South African border as we cross the Orange river into the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. This place is officially the hottest place in South Africa. It has only two (2) seasons. The hot season (the locals call it winter) and the hotter season. That's right! If you're Canadian or European, you would say they only have one season there.
From there, drive further down south almost along the shores of the atlantic ocean to the Western Cape Province of South Africa (Cape Town). Take photos of the famous Table mountain. Visit some Wineries and taste some. Head East to the Eastern Cape along the shores of the Indian Ocean this time to Port Elizabeth. Club some there, do whatever there is to do. Proceed East along the coast line to Kwazulu Natala Province commonly known as KZN to Durban the Provincial Capital. There enjoy the cost life with the World's best beaches, healthy environment and some beautiful and handsome Zulu people. From there drive West- North- West to Gauteng province into Johannesburg. Visit Soweto and have some beers, roasted meat and more beers from the Shabeen (not so high class bars but very friendly). From Gauteng drive to Swaziland and hug a few Swazi Virgins that the King can let us have there if we may be too lucky. Just don't marry any because you may end up marrying many. From Manzini, Swaziland, we will drive North and cross in Mozambique. The languge there changes and it will be time for smart phones to use google translate. Unless of course one can speak Portuguese. Once we get to the capital Maputo, we will be able to find people who speak english though with a sexy Portuguese accent. There every night is a friday when it comes partying. Those guys can party. Provided everybody agrees to leave Maputo, we will drive a bit further up north into Malawi. In Malawi, we will camp on lake Malawi and enjoy the World's clearest lake. Drink tea, if you like buy a farm and grow tobacco or if you're like me, just buy their music which the Malawians are convinced beyond any doubt that it is Reggae. I maintain it is not. It could help relieve the stress as you try to make sense out of all they are singing about. By the time you figure they are singing about nothing, we will be on the Zambian border with Malawi in Eastern Zambia and will only be 6 hours drive away from where we had started from. Lusaka.
